AMAZING. From start to finish, the purchase was seamless and professional, and the chair was exactly what we wanted as a gift for my father. Mark was communicative and sent me photos of the skis before he even started building the chair. Once done, I received a photo of the finished product before shipping. I love that we could customize the chair to include all alpine race skis since my dad grew up racing as did my brother and I. It feels very "us." The binding cup holder was the icing on the cake. I 100% recommend working with Colorado Ski Furniture and would use them again! Thanks for everything.

Product Description
Most outdoor chairs are forgotten the moment guests sit down. This one starts conversations.
Walk into any patio furniture store and the formula is the same. Stamped aluminum frames, injection-molded plastic, teak veneer over particle board. All of it engineered to look acceptable in a showroom and deteriorate quietly in your backyard over the next three summers.
We had a different starting point.
Adam started collecting old skis in 1995 because he couldn't stand the idea of them ending up in a landfill. He was a competitive ski racer in Colorado, competing against people who would go on to become Olympians. Skiing was everything to him. When that chapter ended and he found himself stuck in a corporate job, he went back to the garage in Manitou Springs with a set of DeWalt tools and started building.
That was 2007. Colorado Ski Furniture has kept over a million pounds of skis and snowboards out of landfills since.
The Frontier is built for real outdoor use.
The Frontier Full Size Chair is built with the same craftsmanship and materials as every other chair we make, just with the full ski or snowboard intact. The tips stay on, which is what gives it that unmistakable silhouette. The frame and arms are solid Douglas fir, and the seat and back are made from real skis or snowboards depending on your selection. Handcrafted and hand-finished by a team in Manitou Springs who have been doing this for nearly two decades.
You choose your base stain, back style, and whether you want rockers before we build it. No two chairs come out the same.
Here's how that works. The base is Douglas fir, available in five stains: Walnut, Redwood, Gray, Ebony, or Blue-Grey. From there you pick your back style, all skis, all snowboards, or a hybrid of both. There's also an option to add rockers if that's your thing. When you order, there's a notes box where you can share anything else like ski or snowboard brand preferences, specific colors you're after, or any creative direction you have in mind. Before we get started, the team will reach out to confirm all the details and make sure you're happy with the direction. If for whatever reason we can't bring your vision to life, you get a full refund, no questions asked. Looking for something painted? We also offer custom painted versions of this chair. Check them out here.
We have plenty of customers on their third and fourth order. "Great construction and very durable," one repeat buyer told us. Another said the customization options are what brought them back for a second purchase. Once you see how it comes together, it's hard to go back to something off a shelf.
What makes someone stop and ask about a chair?
It's not the finish. It's the skis and boards. Every one has a history and you can feel it. Customers tell us their guests walk past every other piece of furniture in the yard and want to know the story behind the chair. "They're always the center of attention when we're in the backyard," one customer told us. That's not something you get from Pottery Barn or Costco.
These also make the kind of gift people actually remember. We've had customers order pairs as wedding gifts, call in directly to talk through the details, and walk away with exactly what they had in mind. "Extremely excited to give a pair of ski chairs as a wedding gift," one customer said after working through the customization. That kind of thing happens here more than you'd think.
A note on fit
The Frontier is our standard full size chair. The ski or snowboard tips extend beyond the frame, giving it that full effect you can't miss. If you're working with a tighter space, we also make a compact version with the tips cut down. If you're unsure which size is right for you, reach out and we'll help you figure it out before you order. Questions get answered fast, and customization is a breeze.
This is a family business. Most of the time Adam will pick up the phone himself. Everyone here is proud of what they build, and that comes through in the product and the experience of ordering one.
Makes an easy gift for anyone who loves skiing, snowboarding, or just a good chair.
